How to make Kerala Meen Pollichathu | Fish Masala Fry wrapped in Banana Leaf


Ingredients for marination


¼ TSP ginger garlic paste

¼ TSP turmeric powder

1 ¾ TSP red chili powder

1 TSP coconut oil

Salt to taste


Preparation for marination

Clean aavoli and cut stripes on both sides using knife

Add ginger garlic pate in a bowl for starting marination,

Add turmeric powder, then add chili powder, Salt to taste and add the coconut oil

Mix it well and apply to the both sides of the fish and inside the fish thoroughly

We have to keep the marinated fish for minimum 30 mins

After 30 mins, we need to shallow fry the fish

In a frying pan, add coconut oil and put the fish once the oil is heated.

Keep the flame in simmer

You may close it with lid

Flip the fish to other side once the first half is fried


Next make the masala


Ingredients for masala


Chopped onions around 30 Perl onion or a big red onion. Perl onion will definitely give you more taste.

1 chopped tomato

Chopped two pieces of garlic

Copped pieces of a small portion of ginger

Curry leaves

1 TSP coriander powder

1 TSP black pepper powder

1 chilli powder

1/4 tsp tumeric

salt to taste


Prepartion


Grind the garlic and ginger or chop it really nicely

Next, heat a pan with coconut oil and put the onion in it…

Add salt, salt will help to cook the onion better….

Next add grinded ginger and garlic

Make sure the gas is in simmer

Add curry leaf…

Once onion turns brown, add tomato

Once the mixture is sorted well, add black pepper powder, turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder and salt for taste and mix it very well….

The mixture is cooked and sorted well and this looks ready to coat the fish

Next is to soften the banana leaves with heat…

The leaf is ready to make the fry….

put some masala, on top will place the fish and again on top we will place the masala… Once we sandwiched the fish with masala, need to fold the leaf and tie it nicely

For fish masala fry with banana leaf, I have used clay pot. We can use normal pan as well Please the folder leaf with fish to the heated oil in the clay pot Fry the fish for 6mins each side

The fish is ready now…. let’s open and find out!!!!
